Vera Wang Lovestruck Floral Rush

50ml Available Here

The new Marc Jacobs fragrance, Honey has just been realised and it seems like almost every blogger I follow and their mums and their daughters, and their cat's cousin's sister has gone out and bought it for themselves. So needless to say there has been a lot of hype around the new fragrance in blogger land. I've also read a lot of posts on perfumes such as Estée Lauder Bronze Goddess, Marc Jacobs Daisy, Miss Dior, Juicy Couture Viva La Juicy and other more popular scents. But I believe I have found a little hidden gem that hasn't received the attention it deserves in my new Vera Wang eau de parfum. (I feel fancy calling it that!)

I bought this perfume in duty free at the beginning of the month, I also had a voucher so I got quite a good little deal on this if I do say so myself! It was the amazing bottle that drew me in first of all. This looks so good proudly sitting on my desk, I don't think I will be able to throw this away once it's finished! I love anything with a bow, and this huge purple one around the plastic flowers on the lid just makes me so happy inside! The only downside is the bottle isn't exactly travel friendly, as you can see. You might have trouble throwing this is in your handbag.

Describing a scent is not a very easy thing to do, but I will give it my best shot! As you can imagine, there are floral tones in the scent but I wouldn't say it was very strongly floral. I would describe it as a muted, almost musty floral scent. It smells very feminine and sophisticated.

The one thing I found to be a bit of a let down with Vera Wang Lovestruck Floral Rush is that I find I have to top it up during the day. The length of time that you can smell the scent on your skin is slightly disappointing.

If you haven't tried this yet, I highly recommend that you do! I have been loving wearing it this month! I believe the 30ml bottle is on sale in boots for just £20 at the minute if you would like to try a small bottle first and see how you like it!

What perfume have you been wearing this month?

Bank Holiday Weekends

Floral Crown: Primark
Dress: Topshop
Belt: Primark

The fact that this weekend is a bank holiday weekend, to be honest, does not effect me at all at the minute. I don't start my second year of university until October and so, until then, I consider myself completely free! This meaning, that while everyone else is enjoying their extra day off and a nice extra hour or two in bed,for me this weekend will be the same as all my other weekends so far this summer! Saying that, I really don't like the sound of this "Bank Holiday Monday". There is something about a bank holiday to me that doesn't sound appealing. It reminds me of reality, work and that another year of studying is just around the corner. Goodbye freedom.

Clothes wise, I am going through a bit of a "transitional stage". I am gradually starting to introduce Autumn clothing into my life again as there is just a few days left of August. Hence the tights! I love, skirts, dresses and shorts, all year round so I will give you a little heads up and let you know that you will see a lot more tights! I pretty much live in them through the colder months!

I am still grasping onto my floral crowns for as long as I can this year, (I love them!), and yesterday I teamed it with my Topshop prom dress to continue the floral theme. I wore my Irregular Choice, "Fairies in a Jar" heels for a pop of a bright colour on my feet. Next, I decided to toughen the look up a little with my spiked necklace and studded black belt.

How have you spent your Bank Holiday Weekend?

That Prom Dress Feeling

Head Scarf: Vintage
Necklace: Topshop
Dress: Primark
Belt: River Island
Brogues: Primark

I'm one of those people who dress according to their mood. Today for some reason, I had a craving to wear my Primark prom dress. Underneath, the dress has sown in netting to make it puff outwards which I love! It has a really pretty blue and red porcelain pattern and it works for both day and night outfits. I added my tan belt from River Island and my matching Primark brogues to "casualise", (I think I invented this word, but I like it, maybe it will catch on?) the outfit.

Dresses like this feel so good to walk around in. Even as you sit down and the material falls elegantly over your knees, a dress like this instantly can make you feel a little more sophisticated. As it floats around you when you walk and swishes to the side when you turn, I've decided to call it "the prom dress feeling". Apparently today is a day for creating new words and phrases on here!

I love those days when you wake up and know exactly what you want to put on. There's nothing worse that throwing around the clothes in you wardrobe and having absolutely nothing to wear! I know you've all been there!

Do you like that prom dress feeling?

Autumn/Winter 2013

We've made it to mid August. That was quick! Every summer always ends up passing us by faster than we expected it to. But still, you never get used to it and every year you wonder how it has gone so fast! Maybe next year I will be prepared.
Before you get into grieving for the end of Summer 2013, let's lighten the mood by introducing you to a few reasons to look forward to Autumn and Winter. I've picked out a some of my favourite upcoming trends for Autumn/Winter 2013 to minimize the "end of summer blues". Also to let you know what you're in for. Don't worry, it's going to be good!

Fur Coats
This year coats are getting bigger and furrier. There's something sophisticated about a fur collar on a long coat and if it keeps me warm, it's a yes from me.

Grunge
I've actually mentioned this trend a few times on my blog already. Slogan tees, feminine pieces with an edge and layering makes grunge.

Pink
For this one I'm going to give in to the stereotypical girl inside me and admit that, yes, I am very excited for all the pink clothes this Autumn/Winter. Burgundy has had it's time during the colder months. Now its pink's turn.

Dark Florals
The summer favourite has made it through to next season. Dark florals are making an appearance this year. Team a dress like this one with tights and some chunky boots and nail two trends in one by adding a grunge edge to your look.

Tartan
After a very 90's fashion based summer, it would seem Autumn/Winter is moving onto looks from 90's films with this Clueless inspired tartan trend.

Right now it is hard to imagine waking up in the morning and reaching for a long, furry coat and tartan scarf. I've been wearing nothing but skirts, dresses and shorts for the past few months, my legs are going to be so disappointed to be put away until next year. Having said that there are so many things about Autumn and Winter to look forward to as well. My birthday for one, having a reunion with everyone from university, Christmas, (is it too early to get excited for Christmas?) and of course I can't wait to see how my favorite high street shops interpret these new styles!

How to DIY Stud Denim Shorts

I've discovered a quick, easy and inexpensive way of updating your old denim! Studs are on everything at the minute and it is so simple to add this edgy touch to your clothes yourself at home! I've gone for some Levi cut offs, but these studs can be added to just about anything! Perfect for the A/W 13 grunge trend!

You will need...

  • Denim shorts, (or whatever you want to customise)
  • Studs, Available here
  • A knife

Step One...

1. Choose where you want your studs to be and what design or shape you would like them in. Then take the stud and push it through the fabric until the four spikes are visible on the other side.

Step Two...

2. Flip the fabric over to the other side where you will see the four spikes from the stud coming through. Using your knife, push the four spikes inwards.

Step Three...
3. Continue this process to create your design!

Tah Dah!
An old pair of shorts with a whole new look, in three easy steps!

Let me know if you have tried this out!

Moments of Monochrome

Leather Jacket: New Look
Necklace: Primark
Top: Topshop
"Treggings": Topshop
Pumps: Ebay

Things have been a little different this summer. Firstly, we have had hot weather. A very rare occurrence for summer in Ireland, and secondly, instead of browsing round the shops and being blinded by bright colours, this year has hit us with monochrome. Hmm, very peculiar.

I got these "treggings" (half trouser, half leggings) on my first trip to Leeds to visit a friend from Uni on her birthday. I tried these on in Topshop and my friends insisted that I buy them! Hence why I came home from uni this year with twice as much clothes as I left with (I left with a lot of clothes) and why I spent the last few weeks of term living off the cheapest food I could find in Tescos and Revolution's £5 nights out.
Patterned trousers, or "treggings" as the Topshop website calls them, can be a little scary. But these ones stand out without being too OTT.

Monochrome is a really easy look to achieve. Everyone has some black and white in their wardrobe so dig them out and recreate the simple yet chic summer trend! I've added some pops of purple to my monochrome outfit with my purple T-bar pumps and with Mac's "Up The Amp" lipstick.

Have you had a moment of monochrome yet?

Stylespiration: Jade Thirlwall

Jade Thirlwall from X Factor girl band, Little Mix has a wardrobe I've had my envious eye on. Her quirky, cute style is very similar to how I love to dress! With plenty of preppy collars, bows and dungarees her youthful look is perfect for some "stylespiration".
Seen here wearing a Chanel inspired tweed short and blazer combo, the touches of pink and heels with socks keeps the outfit looking less "office" and more red carpet worthy.
I absolutely love this outfit! It is 90's meets Minnie Mouse which is a combination I definitely like the sound of! Also Jade wouldn't be Jade without her braces, the simple and charming touch to basic denim shorts.
Her spotty crop top and dungaree dress here are both available at New Look. Anyone recognise her shoes? Yep. They are Irregular Choice "Fairies in a Jar", my newest addition to my Irregular Choice collection. You can read my blog post on them and see pictures here. Nice choice Jade!
I love the touches of red in this look. The polka dot dungaree dress is also available at New Look. The oversized coat and trainers keeps the outfit casual while still, overall looking feminine.

There you have it! A few examples of why Little Mix's Jade Thirlwall gets a My Petite Closet seal of approval. I want your clothes Jade.

The Liebster Award!

We've been pretty excited over here at My Petite Closet HQ over the past few daysas we have been nominated by Teen Diary for the Liebster Award! (Yayyyy!) So I'd like to say a huge thank you for the nomination and I'd like to ask all who reads this to go over and check out her blog!

So in case your unfamiliar with the award, it is basically a way of creating awareness of really good blogs which have a limited amount of followers. It's a really nice way of giving back to those who put lots of thought and work into their blogs by getting them more recognised. I'm so happy that My Petite Closet fallen into this category and been nominated for the award! There are a few rules and steps to do in order to confirm your nomination...

The rules:

You must link back to the person that nominated you.

You must answer the 11 Liebster questions given to you by the nominee before you.

You must pick 11 bloggers to be nominated for the award with under 200 followers.

You must come up with 11 questions for your nominees to answer.

You must go to their blogs and notify your nominees.

The 11 questions:

1. If you could change one thing about yourself what would it be?
I'm quite shy, so I'd probably choose to be more confident.

2. Who do you think is the most fashionable celebrity couple?
Beyonce and Jay-Z always look amazing.

3. As kids, we all have horrible fashion days. What was your worst outfit?
This was more of an "accessory" (if you can call it that), but it was definitely a bad idea! My first ever concert was Steps when I was about seven or eight, and at the concert my aunty bought be this black hair band that had two springs coming out of the top of it which had sparkly silver tassels dangling from them. I remember I thought it was so cool and I wore it casually during the day for about a week! I wore it to school and everything! Hahaha oh dear.

4. If you could get your hands on any wardrobe, whose would it be?
I love Olivia Palermo's outfits. She always looks so stylish and sophisticated. I'd love to get my hands on her wardrobe.

5. What's your favourite trend of 2013?
I have been enjoying getting very nostalgic by going back to the clothes of my childhood with the 90's trend! I've been loving wearing crop tops and dungarees and I hope they never go out of style again!

6. If we only had one season throughout the whole year, which one would you prefer?
Probably Winter. I love Christmas and the whole season with all the pretty lights on the streets and late night shopping! Plus I like wearing layers and cosy Winter clothes.

7. How do you see yourself 10 years from now?
Ohh tough one. I think I'd love to have my own dance classes and my own dance studio. With little performances every now and then with my dancers performing my choreography. That would be pretty cool. I also love cities, so hopefully I'll be living in a city somewhere.

8. What's your favourite memory?
Another tough one. Considering I was so young, I remember pretty clearly the day my little sister was born. My aunty picked me and my brother up from school and we went to the hospital to meet our new sibling for the first time. My aunty knew that we had just gotten a new little sister, but she wouldn't tell us and we spent the whole car journey in suspense trying to get it out of her. We bought my sister a little teddy on the way who was wearing a cute little jumper and when we got there we set it beside her in her cot. I remember I was so shocked by this tiny little bear being bigger than my little sister. Then I looked into the cot and sang happy birthday to her.

9. Who do you look up to as a person and why?
There is a lot of people I look up to, but one of the big ones, who has been featured a lot in this post, is my aunty Theresa. She has done so many amazing things and has been lots of places over the world. I love hearing her stories of all her crazy adventures and she always has little sayings and words of wisdom for me to memorise every time I see her. The last time I saw her she kept saying "feel the fear and do it anyway!" to remind me not say no to something just because it sounds a bit scary.

10. What do you think is your best feature?
VERY tough one haha. I have been pretty lucky and haven't had to have braces like my brother and sister. My teethe are quite straight and white so I'd probably say my smile.
11. What's the most precious item in your room?
I have a little shoe box hidden away with tickets, and cards and little bits that I have kept as memories from some special days I've had over the past few years. So I'd say my little memory box!

Here are my eleven nominations for the award, thank you for your fantastic blogs giving me regular reading material and entertainment!

My eleven questions for you are:

1. Why did you decide to start a blog?

2. What is your current skincare regime?

3. Who is your celebrity style crush?

4. If you could travel anywhere in the world where would it be and why?

5.What is your favourite high street shop?

6. Who is the first person you turn to for advice?

7. What would you say is your worst habit?

8. What childhood dreams have you fulfilled?

9.What new dreams would you like to fulfil?

10. Do you collect anything?

11.What was the best gift you ever received?

Phew! That was harder than I thought it would be!
